here's the myth behind everyone’s favourite mountain, Karioi…
Karioi was a beautiful girl and she landed a very handsome fellow as her husband. Unfortunately, her younger sister, Pirongia, (the mountain down the road), stole this dude from her. When Karioi found out she kicked the man out into the ocean, where he still is today in the form of a rocky island down the coast. Sweet.
